Pfc Sheridan was born in 1923 in Bradford County Pennsylvania and was killed in action on Monday, Jan 8, 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge.

Pfc Sheridan is the son of Eugene J Sheridan [b 10/13/1881 in Samania, NY and died 4/8/1929 in Powell, Bradford Co. PA] a Tannery laborer and the son of Lulu Luann Shiner Sheridan [b 07/29/1882 in Pa and died 10/17/1960 in Powell, Bradford Co, Pa].

The 1930 US Census for Monroe, Bradford Co. Pa shows Joseph residing at #7 Canton Ave with his widowed mother and sister Geraldine [b 11/20/1917 in Pa and died unknown] and a brother Philip Hugh [b 3/23/1919 in Pa and died unknown]. Pfc Sheridan had a brother Wayne [b 12/04/1906 and died 8/1966 in Bradford Co, Pa] and a sister Eloise [b in 1906 in Florida and died unknown] who do not appear on this census.

Pfc Sheridan enlisted in the Army on Nov 2, 1942 at Wilkes Barre, PA. His enlistment sates Joseph had completed 2 years of high school and was employed as an auto serviceman.

SPAN CLASS="normalloose">The 507 Boots & Wings newspaper issue of Aug 30, 1943 [pg 11] mentions Pfc Sheridan….‘Among the recent promotions are that of Pvt Jos. E Sheridan to Pfc. Congratulations fellows.’

Pfc Sheridan was awarded the Purple Heart Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Croix de Guerre Unit Citation [French].

Pfc Sheridan is interred at Henri-Chapelle, American Cemetery, Belgium. At Plot G Row 14 Grave 43.
