Pfc Butler was born in 1914 in Pennsylvania and was killed in action on July 12, 1944 during the Airborne invasion of Normandy.

Pfc Butler is the son of Patrick Butler [b, 1881 in PA] a coal miner of and the son of Ann Butler [b. 1886 in PA].

The 1930 US Census for Lackawanna/Minooka, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania shows Lawrence residing at #3118 Birney Ave with his parents and brother Patrick and sister Margaret.

Pfc Butler enlisted in the Army on Aug 7, 1941 at Baltimore, MD. His enlistment records states Lawrence had completed grammar school and was employed at the telephone company.

Pfc Butler was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Croix de Guerre Unit Citation [French].

Pfc Butler is interred the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France at Plot H Row 21 Grave 33.
