Sgt Ahlgrim enlisted in the Army on April 2nd, 1942 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. His enlistment record states that Robert had completed 2 years of high school graduate and was single.

Sgt Ahlgrim was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, and the Croix de Guerre Unit Citation [French].

Sgt Ahlgrim is interred at the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur Mer, France at Plot D, Row 23, Grave 11 (pictured above right).
